Charlotte,
NC---- Sports Radio 610AM WFNZ The Fan's Packman
from "Primetime with the Packman", is
preparing to kick off the 8th Annual "Street Turkeys"
event presented by AT&T that will take place on Wednesday,
November 24th from 6a.m.-7p.m. at the WFNZ CPI Doghouse
at the corner of Mint & Morehead to benefit Second Harvest
Food Bank of Metrolina, and Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry.
"Street Turkeys", created by WFNZ's afternoon
on-air personality, Mark Packer, host of the "Primetime
with the Packman", is a local grass-roots campaign
that provides food & monetary donations to hunger relief
organizations to help their agencies feed hungry people
throughout the Carolinas. Since being created in 2003, Street
Turkeys has raised over $400,000, collected over 5,000 turkeys
and over 16,000 pounds of food all of which go directly
to the local food bank and food pantries.
"Street
Turkeys is a great Charlotte Thanksgiving tradition",
said Packman. "I get more satisfaction with this event
than the outcome of any game we cover on the show. There's
a great feeling heading into the holidays knowing that you've
helped somebody enjoy a great meal. We take it for granted,
but there are tens of thousands of people that are suffering
and hungry, and Street Turkeys is a great opportunity for
us to help folks in need."
The
Charlotte Bobcats will also join forces with WFNZ this year
and for every person who donates to the Street Turkeys campaign
they will receive two complimentary tickets for either the
game on Wednesday, November 24th against New York or the
game on Friday, November 26th against Houston. "For
eight years Packman and WFNZ have been working to make the
holidays brighter for people across the Carolinas who are
struggling to feed themselves and their families,"
said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment President and Chief
Operating Officer Fred Whitfield. "That's our commitment
too, and we're proud to partner with Pack and The Fan to
feed as many people as possible this year."
Primetime
with the Packman will broadcast LIVE at the WFNZ CPI Doghouse
and everyone in the community is invited to come out and
make a donation. All checks should be made out to "Second
Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina". Second Harvest Food
Bank will then evenly divide the donations with Loaves &
Fishes. All patrons are welcome to drop off turkeys, canned
goods and monetary donations by visiting the WFNZ Doghouse
on Wednesday, November 24th between 6a.m.-7p.m.
