Chillin'
Out I hope everyone enjoyed the winter wonderland. I'm ready for the stuff to melt away. I need more ice like I need another report about Tim Tebow at the Senior Bowl. After spending some time on the slopes of the Myers Park Country Club during Winter Blast '10, I was able to get home and check out some of the sporting events of the weekend. Many thanks to the MPCC gestapo for allowing the kids, dogs and adults to enjoy the hills without causing any problems to the Donald Ross layout. I made it home in time to watch the ACC's best team (Duke) get throttled by one of the Big East's better teams (Georgetown). It was further proof and evidence that ACC basketball is a shell of its former self. The Big East probably has 5 teams better than the ACC's best team (Villanova, Syracuse, G-town, West Virginia, Pitt)...it's not even worth debating, at this point of the season. For the past handful of years, the Tar Heels have carried the league on its shoulders with 3 Final Four appearances and two titles. Nobody else has done much in the process. Saturday's blowout loss makes you wonder if the ACC can make it to the Elite 8 this year? This year, I still think Duke is the conference's best team, but they looked over-matched while being dominated by the Hoyas. While Coach K watched his team get throttled, the Prez and the VP decided to stop by to join in the festivities. President Obama, never one to shy away from a photo op, joined the CBS broadcast and proclaimed that he might be interested in joining the telecast in three or seven years down the road. I thought Obama did a nice job breaking down the action....if he wants to get a jump on his next career, it would be fine with me. Why wait? Jim Nantz claimed last week that he's on board with the PGA Tour. He was quoted as saying that "everyone's selling off pro golf and the PGA Tour. I'm buying stock right now....and I don't have anybody putting me up to say that." Geez. Somebody by the name of Ben Crane won this past week at Torrey Pines. Ben Freaking Crane.....I'm sure the TV ratings were off the charts. Just for good measure, the best golfer in the world that is currently playing is Phil Mickelson. Ol' Lefty was charged with cheating by playing what some tour players thought was an illegal club. Mickelson didn't take the claim lightly, and vowed to set the record straight. This is just what the Tour needs...while Tiger is away...the entire PGA Tour has slipped into oblivion. Even John Daly claimed he was going to quit, and that he was embarrassed being out there in those hideous slacks. Tim Finchem is probably getting updates by the minute on Tiger's latest exploits in his sex rehab clinic. The PGA Tour can't wait for his return.....in the meantime, the Ben Crane Era will continue. It's Super Bowl week, and for the first time in a long, long time, I won't be attending. The Radio Row for the big game is always a trip....fun interviews, great parties and always a good time. This year, we're headed to Vegas instead...and to be honest, I'm really looking forward to it. How can you have a bad time in Vegas? We'll be broadcasting on Friday and the show will be loaded with interviews and some off-beat things to get you ready for the Super Bowl. As for the game, I think it's going to be a good one. Both teams have the ability to score in bunches, and I suspect that will happen on Sunday. I hope the Saints win the game and bring the championship to the Bayou. How great would that be for the folks in N'awlins? After all the heartbreak and destruction of Katrina, the Saints and their fans have always been passionate, but with very little success to show for it. But with that said, how do you pick against Peyton Manning? I like both teams....but the Colts' defense is bound to make more plays and cause more disturbance than the Saints unit.....and to me, that's the difference. Either way, I'm ready for the season's last game......and for a few crazy nights in Vegas. |
