Sorry,
Tiger I've had a few days to process the 13-minute speech, I mean "apology", presented by Tiger Woods last Friday. I've read dozens of columns by folks that I truly respect and I've come to one conclusion..... Why are we so absorbed in determining if Tiger's apology was legit? Listen, the guy made a series of horrible decisions that could cost him his marriage, not to mention his reputation and hundreds of millions of dollars. The only person he needs to apologize to is his wife, Elin. And he needs to do it in person, as opposed to a nationally-televised audience. I thought the coverage of Woods' "press conference" was way over the top.....it is truly understandable why ESPN and the Golf Channel would cover it 24/7. But for live break-ins by the major networks as if the President of the United States was declaring war was a bit much. Tiger is the world's biggest sports icon, and his lack of judgement has already cost him dearly. I really don't care if the guy saves his marriage, or if he's out chasing skirts this weekend. I do care about seeing him on the golf course and chasing the legend of Jack Nicklaus and his 18 major golf titles. As far as I'm concerned, Tiger needs to move on with his life...he's the only one that knows what he wants and needs to do. But before I move on to another subject, what is up with his caddie, Steve Williams, and his lame attempt at straightening out anybody that heckles Woods? Give me a break; Williams is lucky that somebody doesn't come thru the ropes and pound his New Zealand ass. Hey, Stevie.....here's the deal: Carry Tiger's bag and rake in a cool 7-figures....and quit worrying about being some enforcer on the PGA Tour. We'll all be better off. Congrats go out to Danica Patrick......her 31st place finish in California was a thing of beauty. It took just a few laps to fall one lap behind. 20 laps later, she was DFL and dropping another lap behind. Before you knew it, the race was over, and she ran and hid from her adoring NASCAR media contingent. By the time she regrouped over the impressive 31st place finish, she told everyone with a microphone that she's used to running up front......now, that's funny. When does Danica run up front? The last time I checked, she's won a grand total of one race in 81 career Indy Racing League starts. I'll say it again....NASCAR has made a serious mistake, hyping a driver that can't compete. If the sport can't stand on its own merit as an entertaining form of racing, then don't try to rig it up by promoting a driver that can't compete. As if the Nationwide results weren't tough enough, the Cup guys added some additional question marks. Dale, Jr. and his legion of fans were pumped and rightfully so, after a great finish at Daytona. But in Cali, the 88-car was junk and so was Junior. He finished 32nd and it begged the question: Was Danica driving the 88-car? Can you believe the fall of the Tar Heels? After another winless week, the Heels are heading into the final two weeks of the regular season with a 14-13 overall mark and find themselves in a 10th place tie in a downtrodden ACC. I had a delusional UNC fan email this weekend and claim that he thought the Heels could win four straight games in the ACC Tourney and make it to the Big Dance. I guess anything's possible.....except Clemson winning a basketball game in Chapel Hill. But it's hard to comprehend that UNC could win four straight ACC games in four days, when they've only beaten two ACC teams (for a grand total of 3 wins) for the entire season. I just assumed that Roy and his guys would eventually win a few down the stretch, and have to decide if they wanted to play in the NIT. But given the current state of the program, it's amazing to think they are on the NIT bubble. What kind of odds could you get before the year that the defending national champs would be hovering in the ACC basement, with a record just above .500 and not be a lock for the NIT? Since the NCAA field jumped to 64 teams, there have only been a few teams that won the national title and followed it up the next season by not making the big Dance:
.....and now it appears that UNC will become the fourth team to be added to the list. |
