Apologetic First, it was ESPN backstroking over a "Chink in the Armor" headline that appeared on their website for an hour in the middle of the night, and now it is the makers of America's best ice cream that is feeling the heat. Ben & Jerry's somehow offended someone with the inclusion of fortune cookies in their new "Taste of Lin-Sanity" flavored yogurt. I've got to be honest with you: I'm not ordering yogurt at B&J's, but how can someone be offended with the latest PC play? I recently had dinner at a Chinese restaurant.....our server was Asian....I asked for fortune cookies....no problem. The food, the service and the cookies were outstanding. So was the attitude. I hate Political Correctness. I was more offended at the lame NBA Dunk Contest than I was by the use of fortune cookies in a dessert. Speaking of the NBA weekend....what in the world was that? Every single event looked like some cheap MTV basketball event.....it was pitiful. The guy that won the dunk contest is somebody by the name of Jeremy Evans. Rumor has it he plays for the Utah Jazz.....and he is averaging 1.7 points per game. This is the kind of player that Michael Jordan would spend millions on, to sit on the bench. I take that back....even MJ would be hard-pressed to want this guy on his team. The NBA Dunk Contest needs to be taken back behind the barn....or to some inner-city dead end...and shot. For anybody that was offended by that last line....too bad. I also found it interesting that the NBA continues to promote the who cares...no-defense....dunk until you're happy type of weekend all-star event, while the NFL is looking to clean-up or possibly eliminate their NFL Pro Bowl which featured no tackling, touch-flag football and had absolutely nothing that resembles their game. Maybe it's another reason the NFL is the king of sports. They get it. The NFL Combine is disturbing to me. I've never been interested in watching hundreds of grown men parade in their underwear showing off how fast they can run, how high they can jump and how much weight they can lift. The fact that the NFL Network gives you non-stop coverage is not surprising.....but the fact that people act stunned that Robert Griffin III and LaMichael James can run sub 4.40 40-yard dashes is shocking. Apparently these are the same people that didn't watch a single play of college football last year. I guess the NFL needs to make this part of the big deal to get people hooked on their sport 24/7/365.....I'll wait until the games kick-off. But if you are into the latest vertical jump measurements, knock yourself out.....in the meantime, I'll be at Ben & Jerry's....and no, I won't be ordering the "Taste of Lin-Sanity". I hate that the Daytona 500 was postponed on Sunday. I returned from church, and was stationed in my leather chair and totally prepared to watch Danica Patrick go for the tri-fecta and wreck her third car in as many races. I guess I'll have to catch the race after my SiriusXM show on Monday. I'm taking bets to see which part of the track she will crash into next. I'm going with another backstretch smash into the SAFER barrier....of course, the next wreck will not be her fault, and the NASCAR announcers will give her unlimited praise regardless of what happens. It must be mandated from NASCAR that any announcer that covers the sport must be complimentary of her. I actually heard Darrell Waltrip call her the "face of NASCAR" during the pre-race festivities on Sunday. I almost threw up my Ben & Jerry's ice cream all over the leather chair. DW now says she's the face of NASCAR? DW used to mean "Darrell Waltrip"....now DW means "Danica Wrecked". If he mentions that again, somebody should go over and knock the crap out of him and mention that his NASCAR Hall of Fame status has been revoked. What a joke... I really hope that nobody gets hurt with Danica on the track....and that goes for her, too. I think she is in way over her head. I wonder if any "racer" or announcer will eventually get tired of the endless BS hype surrounding her lack of talent, and finally call it like I see it....NASCAR is praying that their TV numbers increase with her on the track. The sport has sold its soul to the devil....they are playing with Fool's Gold. Maybe she can eventually compete in the Nationwide Series, but I think she will be a colossal failure in the Cup Series. Has anybody had a more disappointing two weeks in college basketball than NC State? The Wolfpack had reached the point in the schedule in which they had three major match-ups against Duke, Florida State and North Carolina. The country was prepared to give the program a look and see if they were legit....not so much a team to beat in the ACC, but more along the likes that they could be a factor in the league race and as a NCAA Tourney team under first-year coach Mark Gottfried. The Pack blew a 20-point second half lead to Duke and lost. They lost at home by double digits to Florida State in a game highlighted by the ejection of two former Wolfpack stars that were sitting court-side. Then State was dismantled again by their arch-rivals, the Tar Heels, as Roy Williams beat the Pack for the 12th straight time. To make matters worse, the Wolfpack ventured down to Clemson and lost to the Tigers in OT on Saturday and in the process all but eliminated any chance for a NCAA Tourney bid. Unless Gottfried's guys can win the ACC Tournament, it appears that State will be hosting another round of the NIT in Raleigh. The future is brighter for NC State hoops....but the last two weeks have reinforced that the Pack isn't ready for Primetime. |
