Tick...Tock Time. You're going to hear a lot about it this week in the world of sports. Right now, the Houston Texans are on the clock. On Saturday they will let us know what they're going to do with the first pick of the NFL Draft. They'll select Reggie Bush or Mario Williams...or, they will shock the world with another selection...or trade down for additional picks. Tick....tock....tick....tock. Has Brett Favre made up his mind yet? Don't you wish the IRS would treat your tax returns the same way the Green Bay Packers change their minds on deadlines? Can we assume that Favre will tell us of his future plans before the end of the upcoming football season? His puppeteering of the Packers' front office has been both pathetic and humorous. The NC State Wolfpack, and more specifically, Lee Fowler, will announce the next leader of the Pack's basketball program. At least that is the gameplan. Fowler has been turned down by A-list coaches like Rick Barnes and John Calipari. The latest rumor by the clueless media entourage is that former UCLA coach Steve Lavin has been offered the position...who knows? Certainly the media (self-included) has no idea what is going on in Fowler's head or behind the scenes. I can honestly state that I've enjoyed watching the media speculate and justify unsubstantiated rumors as fact...it has been hilarious. Here is an idea: let's allow Lee Fowler to conduct his search and announce the coach, and then we can discuss the move! What has been determined in the last three weeks is that the media has no idea what is going on in Raleigh. Every media outlet wants to "break the story"...give it up, fellas...nobody has been close. Tick...tock...tick...tock. Tiger Woods is in New Zealand. He is attending his caddie's wedding and also doing a little dirt track racing. Shouldn't he be working on his game and getting ready for the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte next week? You know Lefty has won the last two majors and he's coming to the Queen City. Nah. I'm not sure Tiger is going to make it here, and that's too bad. It would be great to have him join the other top players in the world at Quail Hollow. As of this blog, 9 of the Top 10 golfers on the planet are locked and loaded for the event...it is going to be great with or without the world's best player. Maybe Tiger...like the Texans, Favre and the Wolfpack, will let us know something soon. But he better hurry though....he's running out of time. |
