America's Team
Posted May 8, 2011, 10:31 AM ET

It has been debated for years.

Who really is "America's Team"?

Cowboys, Braves, Saints....well, I'm here to tell you that I can give you the official answer.

Navy SEAL Team 6.

Is there any doubt, after their efforts last week in hunting down and eliminating the most evil person on the planet?

God Bless 'Em....and all the men and women that serve this great country. We should never lose sight of that fact and anytime you can support them and their efforts, you should absolutely follow through as an American.

It's these men and women that allow idiots like me to talk sports and discuss truly secondary issues of the day like the Kentucky Derby, NASCAR's lame fights and if Cam Newton is the right pick for the Panthers.

God Bless the men and women of the US Armed Forces......best in the world.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the Seve Ballesteros.

The 54 year-old Spaniard passed away over the weekend and he was one of the most flamboyant and electrifying golfers of all-time.

I remember going to the GGO in the late 70's as a teenager, and I watched Seve win the tourney. He was about ready to explode onto the world golf scene and you could tell he was destined for greatness.

He didn't disappoint. It was just a matter of time before he won the Masters for the first time and the rest was history.

It's hard to believe that he's gone at the early age of 54. The energy and passion that he brought to the Ryder Cup was unmatched. He made it personal between the two teams and he made it relevant again.

He will be missed and his style and elegance on the course may never be seen again.....he was a one-of-a-kind.

RIP, Seve.

Manny Pacquiao toyed with Shane Mosley.....the fight was a snoozer.

I'm not sure the Kevin Harvick-Kyle Busch dust-up at the the end of race in Darlington had as much action as the big fight in Vegas.

I'm going to make this short and sweet....boxing is dying. The MMA folks have taken over the limelight based on better fights, marketing and action.

If boxing wants to stage a comeback it needs two things to happen immediately:

1) Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. need to sign on the dotted line and get in the ring. Floyd might make it rain from time-to-time....but he needs to man-up and fight Manny ASAP.

2) Boxing has to find some heavyweights that have some skill and desire to be great.....it's amazing that on this planet the heavyweight boxing line-up is as weak as it is.....and it's been that way for decades.

In the meantime, the MMA crew will steal the headlines and the interest level.....and they've earned it.

My guys at Town & Country Ford in Charlotte will give you the best deal on a car in the Queen City.

But they would be hard-pressed to beat the car deals that are taking place in Columbus, Ohio.....especially if you have ties to the The Ohio State University football program.

My Goodness....it's one thing for the Sweater-Vest to blatantly lie to NCAA investigators and his immediate supervisors; now, the Buckeye football program is being investigated regarding the mega-deal used car business for players.

One dealership in particular has a bargain in which you could walk away with a car for the grand listing price of $0.

Zero....Zip.....Nada.

The Buckeyes have some explaining to do....and if it involves Tressel, this is going to be an ugly ending for the poisonous nuts.

The group of folks that should be loving this live in Chapel Hill. The unfortunate misgivings of The Ohio State football program have taken some of the heat off of the Heels and their investigation.

By the way, how is it that we're into the month of May, and the UNC probe isn't wrapped up yet?

I got the feeling based on the statements made by the UNC suits that the case and investigation was nearly complete at the end of last year....and here we are in May, and it is awfully quiet on the Tar Heel front.

I am loving the way the Dallas Mavericks are beating up on the LA Lakers.

Phil Jackson has won 11 NBA titles, and he will go down in history as one of the greatest coaches in sports history.....but I can assure you he didn't want to go out this way.

I've loved it.

Anytime a team from LA gets punked, it's a beautiful thing.

Watching the Lakers go down has been almost....and I do mean "almost"...as much fun as watching the LA Dodgers go broke.

As a devout San Francisco Giants fan, watching the once-proud Dodger franchise suffer such an embarrassing fiasco is fantastic. It's one thing to suck, and the Dodgers certainly fall into that category.....it's another thing to be a team looking for a handout.

The thugs that raid their stadium....a team that hasn't been relevant in decades....a franchise that is going through an ownership malfunction....and now one that is flat-out broke.

Can it get any better than that?

Maybe Bud Selig can shut it down....but I have no faith in Selig.

"Brother, can you spare a dime?" The Dodgers need your help.

I had a lot of folks email me about caddying for Boo Weekley this past week, at Quail Hollow.

My man, Boo, didn't qualify for the Pro-Am due to money listings or Fed Ex Cup points or some outlandish reason.....so we weren't able to hook-up at the golf course.

But I did get up with him during the week at one of his book signings.....you heard me. Boo has a new book out, titled "True Boo".

I know how many people loved hearing our interviews on the old radio show....and I can attest that Boo is one of my favorite people in sports. If you loved the stories he tells on the air, you'll love the book.

I highly suggest that you grab a copy....it's an easy read, loaded with a ton of laughs.

I fully expect the new author to start making some putts on the Tour.....he's healthy for the first time in a while and life seems to be treating him well.

Hopefully, we'll both be back at Quail Hollow next year.

Congratulations go out to Lucas Glover and Jonathan Byrd.

Both gentlemen battled in a playoff for the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow on Sunday.....both golfers are former Clemson Tigers, too.

I'd stated many times on my old radio show that Clemson is a golf school.

Some people laughed and thought I was kidding around......I'm not.

Larry Penley has developed one of the very best golf programs in America....and as a former Clemson golfer and longtime friend of the program, I couldn't be happier for all the guys.

It was an awesome moment, watching those two guys play it off on the 18th at Quail Hollow on Sunday afternoon.

I spent a little time with my wife, Amie, in the CBS Sports 18th tower on Sunday watching and listening to Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo call the action. Early in the broadcast when Byrd and Glover were 1-2 on the leader board, Nantz acknowledged the Clemson golf connection and nodded to me in the process.

How 'Bout Them Tigers?

Nah, I'm not talking football.....Clemson is a golf school....and a damn good one.

Congrats to both guys, for making a former Clemson golfer proud. "Class", on and off the course.

Job well done.
