715
and Counting... Barry Bonds went yard for the 715th time in his amazing career. The fans in the Bay area went nuts, but nobody at ESPN did...so what? Thank goodness Barry has passed Babe. It was inevitable and everybody knew it was just a matter of time. Congrats to Bonds, so now can we all move on to something more interesting in the world of baseball? I'm not trying to diminish Bonds' spectacular feat, but his home run chase of Babe Ruth's mark has been over-hyped all season long. I'm tired of ESPN's spin that nobody in baseball outside of San Francisco cares...if that were the case, why does' Bonds every move draw a comment from the Bristol-studios? The best move ESPN has made recently is putting the "Bonds on Bonds" reality series on hiatus. That waste of airtime was the "world wide leader" at its best. Now if only the suits in Bristol had the balls to do the same with "Cold Pizza", "Around the Horn" or any program that includes Stephen A. Smith. I also find it comical that some experts and announcers believe that their opinions will affect Bonds and his accomplishments. Please keep in mind that in addition to being the #2 home run hitter of all-time, Barry has won 7 MVP awards and is the only member of the 700 HR/ 500 Stolen Bases club...no other player is even in the 400/400 club. Bonds is an incredible player...whether he's juiced or not. Assuming he is 'roided beyond belief, the guy was a Hall-of Famer, long before the accusations of steroid use in the late 90's. I'm not saying what he did (or didn't do) is right, all I'm saying is the guy has been a tremendous player since his days in Pittsburgh and now in San Fran. I'm more interested in the Giants, than Bonds. I'm more interested in what Albert Pujols is doing than Bonds...the same goes for the upstart Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. I could go on with another dozen topics that are of more interest to baseball fans. Like Bonds' pursuit of Babe Ruth, it is time for all of us to move on. |
