Randolph's
Role? The NBA Draft is fast approaching, and the Charlotte Bobcats have some work to do. Even though the boys didn't catch a break during the NBA Draft Lottery, the Bobcats can still pick up two solid players with the 5th and 13th picks in the first round. On Monday, a number of potential draftees worked out for the Bernie Bickerstaff and Company...some of the players included Hakim Warrick of Syracuse, Chris Taft of Pittsburgh and Sean May of North Carolina. Also invited was Shavlik Randolph of Duke. You read that correctly...Shavlik Randolph of Duke. Let's be honest, there is no way Shavlik is going to get drafted by Charlotte...unless it is in the WNBA Draft. After the workout, Randolph explained that he'll probably return to Duke for his senior season. He termed the experience as a "dress rehearsal", and a learning experience. He also said that he plans to workout for a few more NBA teams such as Detroit and Miami. But here is my take...if I were Sean May, I would latch onto Shavlik's coattails. You heard me right. You've got to figure that May is going to get a good look by just about every team in the Top 10. If you look at the May's performance during the Tar Heels' great run to the NCAA title, you'll notice that he was dominant at times...especially against Duke! Even Mike Krzyzewski praised May's performance against his team in the thriller to close out the regular season in Chapel Hill...it seemed as if May averaged 30 points and 30 rebounds against Duke every time he played them last season. And May did it against Shelden Williams, a terrific big man, who will go high in next season's NBA Draft. And this is where Shavlik comes into play...if I were May, I would pay him to travel along during every NBA workout. If Sean dominated Duke's big man during the game, what will he do against their back-up in practice? Having Randolph tag along to the NBA pre-Draft workouts can only enhance his draft status later this month...Plus, it gives Shavlik an opportunity to find out what he really needs to work on during the off-season. It is a win-win scenario for all parties...and who says Duke and UNC players can't get along? |
