Disbarred Mike Nifong earned everything that is coming his way. The low-life formerly in charge in Durham County has been disbarred, and now the fun begins. Nifong absolutely butchered the Duke lacrosse case in every way, shape and form. He is an embarrassment to any District Attorney in this great country. His apology (if you want to call it that) surprised a few of his close associates this past weekend, but it shouldn't come as a shock. Nifong knew all along that what he was doing to those Duke students last year was wrong, and it wasn't the only misstep by Nifong or many of those associated with the case in the first place. Duke University also shoulders some of the blame, too. It didn't take long for the school to work out arrangements with the families that have been put through hell and back during the whole ordeal. In typical fashion, Duke University issued a press release about the agreement, but you couldn't find a quote by the school president, Richard Brodhead. Broadhead sheepishly hid behind closed doors when everything was breaking loose 14 months ago....that changed drastically, when the momentum and truth began to emerge from the case. When Nifong appeared to lose control, it was easy for the school to do an about-face. The university release indicated "that these young men and their families have been the subject of intense scrutiny that has taken a heavy toll." Nice job....just cut the check and let's move on. There is only one "win" in the whole mess surrounding the Duke lacrosse case...and that is the fact that a guy like Mike Nifong is being kicked to the curb. I suspect that the future will get even tougher for a guy who was a complete fraud in the way he handled the case and served the good people of Durham County. I've got some thoughts on other subjects as we approach the true "dog days" of summer..... What kind of odds could you have received on Zach Johnson and Angel Cabrera winning the first two golf majors of the year? Both of them outplayed Tiger Woods during the final round to claim their respective first majors. Speaking of Woods, I'm sick of these blowhard announcers (e.g. Dan Hicks, NBC) spewing this "Tiger is 0-29 in the final round of a major, when he doesn't have the lead entering the final round".....I wonder if Hicks knows which end of the club to hold? Tiger has 12 majors; 'nuff said. So, the Oakland Raiders are whining because the new coaches are practicing too hard....hey, Silver and Black, that might be one of the reasons that you finished DFL in 2006 and picked first in the latest NFL Draft. Pacman Jones....you need to turn in your playbook to the NFL Commissioner....pronto. It looks like the UNC Tar Heels are on the verge of being eliminated in Omaha.....if and when that happens, it will continue an amazing trend in the ACC. The last conference team to win the College World Series was Wake Forest.....in 1955. I really enjoyed the LeBronze James full-page colored ads in the USA Today, congratulating him on......for the life of me, I'm not sure what he did, other than get swept in the lowest rated NBA Finals ever. I'm a "witness", all right... Is Phil Mickelson the softest star in sports? His whining about the course being "dangerous" last week was classic. The only thing that was dangerous was Phil hacking out of the wheat on his way to missing his first cut in a major since 1999. Kobe wants to be traded. Barry is open to being traded. Kobe just changed his mind. Seriously, when I look at the sports calendar in the upcoming weeks, is there anything to get excited about? The next 5 weeks are simply brutal. I guess I'm supposed to care about the All-Star game? Puh-lease...wake me up when the guys report to camp at the end of July. |
