Bud's For You Bud Selig needs to go. The game of baseball is littered with ills and problems and the Commish has no chance to straighten out the mess. With the painful conclusion to the Midsummer Classic at beautiful PNC Park in Pittsburgh, now is a good time to address the problems and solutions for Major League Baseball. Where should we start? How about the steroid and HGH testing in the game? Bud Selig seems impressed by the game's testing capabilities and results. Unfortunately, baseball fans think the game is packed with players that are popping pills and injecting needles at every available moment. How about a salary cap? The Yankees will continue to spend over $200 million on their payroll, and a club like the Florida Marlins will continue to spend $15 million on their yearly roster. How can that be good for the game? Bud and the powers that be should at least put a minimum amount that a franchise should spend on their payroll...the discrepancy in spending is astonishing and unhealthy for the sport. I don't care what people say, the concept that the winning team of the All-Star game determines home field advantage for the World Series is one of the dumbest ideas in sports history. A better solution would be to allow the winner of interleague play to determine the Fall Classic homefield outcome. The American League won 61% of the matchups this year....of course they also rallied for the win in the all-star game so that means that Boston, NY, Toronto, Chicago or Detroit will have that honor in October. Sorry AL West, you are not a factor. I hate the DH. I'm biased in this respect since I'm a National League fan, but it is ridiculous that the two leagues play by two different sets of rules....make it all or nothing. Perhaps the biggest change baseball needs is that of the commissioner. Bud Selig is a joke and he needs to be replaced. If Joe Morgan wanted the gig, I'd give it to him in a second...same goes for Bob Costas. The list goes ten deep of qualified people that love the game and have a clue how to get something done. I've had it with Bud Selig. The good news is that the game of baseball is still loved and adored by millions...and despite the flaws and problems the game will survive....even if Bud Selig is driving the bus. |
