Brickyawn 400 NASCAR at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was such a cool concept, 20 years ago....but today, the novelty has completely worn off. The fans were dressed up as empty grandstands and the racing was absolutely dreadful. I've always enjoyed watching NASCAR compared to Indy racing, but the quality of product that is delivered to the IMS is night vs. day. Sunday's race was so boring that it should be mandatory that insomniacs have the race on their DVD player. It's a wonderful story that Ryan Newman won the race....given his recent boot from Stewart-Haas Racing and his Indiana roots....you gotta feel great for him, his family and his crew. But NASCAR's big day at Indy has been reduced to follow the leader. Snooze, you lose. My World Champion San Francisco Giants have hit rock-bottom. Hard to believe that my guys won it all last year, given the way they have played this year....but that's sports. The Giants are in last place in a terrible division and are going nowhere fast. The boys were just swept by the mighty Chicago Cubs at home for the first time in 20 years.....and they lost all three games by a single run...scoring a grand total of 3 runs in the entire series. Yuck. The Giants have made more errors than anybody in baseball and have the worst record in MLB since mid-May. The 2013 season has been a train wreck. I guess I'll have to be content with two World Series titles in the past four years, because there will be no playoff baseball for my guys in 2013. For whatever it's worth, the Giants are in DC on Monday and meeting President Obama at the White House.....it's a tough call to figure which one has had a lousier year? I just returned from Los Angeles, where we were broadcasting our SiriusXM show from the PAC-12 Media Days. I have to give the PAC-12 props; no other league conducts their media affairs on a SONY Studio soundstage lot.....it was pretty cool. I enjoyed talking to and interviewing the PAC-12 players and coaches. The league has some serious style and swagger and I believe it will be the second best college football league in 2013. Stanford and Oregon are loaded and should be Top 10 material....and the next tier of teams like UCLA, Washington, Arizona State and Oregon State should be Top 25 material, too. Ironically, I didn't mention USC in that list....but there are still quality players on Lane Kiffin's roster. After visiting the SEC, ACC and of course the PAC-12 Media Days.....all it has done is whet my appetite for the kick-off to the season. Beginning later this week, we start hitting the road for 3 weeks around the country on our SiriusXM Camp Tours. The official release of our the Tour dates/times won't be unveiled until Monday (the 29th), but I'll give you a hint.....I'm hitting the road later this week from a school that will definitely be in the pre-season Top 10. Then, the week of August 5th I'll be on the road every day from a new location. I can't wait. I'll be attending 10 different football camps over the next three weeks....and I'm pumped up. Stay tuned for all the details at SiriusXM Channel 91. Johnny Manziel was kicked out of a frat party on the University of Texas campus. I have had Johnny Football's back with all the media attacks at the SEC Media Days.....it's now time for him to put down the celebrity, and get ready for what will be his most challenging season of football. I've said it a hundred times on the show.....20 year-old college kids screw up all the time. Johnny has pushed the envelope with his latest YouTube video. What could possibly go wrong with a star college football player from an arch rival school attending a frat party a week before camp opens? Manziel is lucky he was only hit with cheap beer. The best thing to happen to Johnny Football is the game itself.....he needs to get into a structured environment ASAP. Kansas coach Charlie Weis wins the award for best Media Day Quote..... "Have you taken a look at that pile of crap out there? So if you don't think you can play here....where do you think you can play?" Marqise Lee of USC had the best line from any of the players I interviewed. I asked every PAC-12 player to name the hottest co-eds in the league (excluding their own team). Lee gave the nod to Arizona State.....but he was smart when he added that most of those girls are from the Los Angeles area. I had a crazy week of interviews on SiriusXM last week.....36 interviews from 2 days in Greensboro for ACC Media Days.....and 24 interviews from one day in LA for the PAC-12 Show. Can you believe the lawyers for Lance Armstrong? They had the audacity to claim that the US Postal Service can't demand their money back because they should have known that Armstrong was doping. That's incredible. I have lost every ounce of respect for the guy. |
