Sweep
LA It just rolls off the tongue....."Sweep LA". I might be a good old boy from the Carolinas, but my favorite team in all of sports belongs to the Bay area.....I love the San Francisco Giants. They'd been my favorite team as a kid, since the days of Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. It's funny how certain teams and players stick with you, and the Giants have been my team from day one. It's also been a while since my guys have ripped the heart out of the low-life LA Dodgers, but they accomplished that feat over the weekend by sweeping them and in the process dropping the Dodger-dogs deeper into fourth place in the NL West. There are still two long months of baseball remaining before we get to the post-season, and there's no telling what's going to happen in the NL.....but I throughly enjoyed watching the Giants sweep LA this weekend. Any time a team from LA goes down, it's a good thing. Given all the no-hitters and near no-nos in baseball this year, it has almost become commonplace to see a game reach the late innings with some pitcher on the verge of pitching stardom. It's starting to feel the same way on the PGA Tour, when guys start breaking 60. It happened again on Sunday, when Stuart Appleby fired a final round 59 to win at Greenbrier. The fact that the 11-under par round was captured on television made it that much better. Last month, Paul Goydos accomplished the same feat during the John Deere Classic......it's starting to get silly on the PGA Tour. I know that these guys are great....but the equipment, the golf courses and the ball have changed everything on Tour. The only thing missing in the West Virginia hills was a windmill and clown's mouth on the putting surface. Appleby's 59 makes him the fifth player to reach the legendary 59-mark in the history of the PGA Tour.....it was impressive to watch. In fact, he made it look too easy. It makes you wonder if Tiger Woods is ready to join up with the rest of the Tour. No disrespect to Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby....but every week, somebody is firing a 62 on Tour. The Tour's marketing jingle is "These guys are good"......they weren't kidding. Albert Haynesworth is an ass-clown. How can a guy deposit a check for 21-million bucks in April, and then proceed to flunk the conditioning drill in July? Come on, Fat Albert....show an ounce of professionalism, before Mike Shanahan runs you out of DC. Of course, it might be impossible to run Haynesworth out of DC, since he can't run period. If LA had a team, I'd ship his big butt to LA-LA land. I loved Shanahan's quotes last week, concerning Fat Albert's lack of conditioning and motivation. Hopefully, the big boy will find a way to qualify to practice with the rest of the Redskins. Owner Daniel Synder has written some bad checks before....but this one has to take the cake. Assuming that Haynesworth hasn't devoured it along with that bonus check. The 2010 Southern Fried Football™ Tour will be unveiled on Thursday, August 19th. That's the day we have the premier of the Southern Fried Football™ Radio Show and the relaunch of the website, too. I'm glad that AAA is back as our title sponsor, along with all the other great sponsors that make the SFF Tour a reality. I'll be giving all of them plenty of love and exposure on the air and on the road, in the upcoming weeks. It's hard to believe that this will be our 13th year on the road during the college football season, and I can give you a hint by telling you that we've got some surprise visits and teams on the schedule this year. Stay tuned....August 19th is the day! |
