Days Michael Vick is guilty. I shouldn't be surprised that after his plea; there was talk on our radio show about the race card. It never fails in this day and age...as soon as somebody breaks the law and gets caught, there is an automatic bias towards a particular race, gender or someone's economic background. In this particular case, it's all about stupidity. Michael Vick is one of the dumbest people on the planet. How can you argue that point? The guy has basically thrown away tens of millions of dollars, fame, and celebrity by making ignorant decisions. Given his actions in recent years, you could see that this guy has some serious issues and problems. Everything from the infamous Ron Mexico incident, to the water bottle in Miami, to flipping off his hometown fans, to the dogfighting operation....enough is enough. He will pay his debt to society, however long that may be, and then he'll return to the NFL for a comeback. Will the league accept him back? Probably so. I don't put too much stock in the NFL when it comes to high morals and backbone....all you have to do is look at the latest arrest sheet and realize the NFL's stance on these issues. That's why I applaud the new commissioner, Roger Goodell, who is doing his best to change the image of the league. Everybody that is harping on the Vick case as a "race" issue needs to get a clue...the guy broke the law, got caught, and now is going to pay the price. Vick is an idiot, and it is as simple as that. How about all the fans that are hitting the panic button over the Panthers' latest preseason performance? I thought Panther fans had figured out this: it's only a preseason game. The same fan base that flooded my phone lines the week before (i.e. after the Giants game, claiming that Jeff Davidson and the new blocking scheme was the answer to all the team's ills) is now freaking out after a terrible team performance in Philly. Come on, folks; get it together. It's preseason. If the team played that poorly in a game once the calendar turns to September, then get concerned and gripe...but don't bother me with the details in a game played in mid-August. Now, don't get me wrong - I sense there are some problem areas that need to be addressed, and I'm not sure there are answers for the 2007 Panthers in those particular departments, but let's not go to extremes when it comes to grading the performance during preseason games. We'll get a good barometer of this team when they play the New England Patriots this Friday night. Bud Selig was joking, right? How else can you describe his ruling on the Yankees' Jason Giambi? Giambi is a self-confessed abuser of steroids. He has apologized and even made himself available to discuss his actions with Major League Baseball's investigation into steroids. Bud Selig basically gives the guy a pardon by stating that there will be no penalty or punishment because of Giambi's willingness to work with the investigation and his charitable work away from the game....Huh? If I were Barry Bonds, or any other player in the game, I would contact Selig immediately and request the "Giambi Special". Why not? I'd tell them everything and then walk away with a clean bill of health. The more Selig talks, the more I wonder about the leadership of the great game of baseball. |
