Panty
Raid I'm a big fan of Roger Goodell. I like the no-nonsense approach of the new NFL bigwig and his desire to clean up the most corrupt pro sports league going: the National Football League. In the past year and a half, the NFL has made the NBA look like Boy Scout Troop 247. Unfortunately, the Commish was wearing lace panties when he handed down the most recent verdict. The latest embarrassing issue surrounding the NFL involves the league's model franchise, the New England Patriots. One of sports' biggest jackasses, Bill Beli-cheat, got caught stealing defensive signals during last week's Jets-Pats game - using a video camera on the opponent's sideline. Before the official word from Goodell, everybody in the Patriots office had offered some sort of apology, including one from the main culprit, Beli-cheat. Of course, he didn't state why he was apologizing, but it had something to do with an interpretation of the rule. Thanks, Coach...does Jason Giambi write your material? There is no question that the actions of the Patriots absolutely affected the integrity of the game of professional football. Teams are always looking for ways to get an edge and advantage...but what New England did was blatant and it was disgraceful. It also brings into question how many times they pulled this stunt in the past, on their way to three Super Bowl Championships. I have more faith and confidence in the Patriots' video guy than I do in the offensive mind of then O-Coordinator and resident lard-ass Charlie Weis. But, back to Goodell: his ruling towards Belichick and New England was weak, at best. You can't fine multi-millionaires $250,000 and $500,000 dollars respectively, and expect that the pompous Pats learned their lesson. That's chump change, and Goodell missed his mark. Consider that Formula One just levied a fine of $100,000,000 against McLaren for cheating and affecting the integrity of their sport, after they'd stolen insider information from a rival....no, that's not a typo...100 million bucks. It's a good thing Goodell took away a potential first-round draft pick from the Pats, too....New England was scheduled to have two first-round picks in 2008....big deal; so, the Pats now have the same amount of first-round picks as everybody else in the NFL. Brian Baldinger of Fox Sports called into my radio show and gave the most bizarre reasoning behind Belichick's actions. According to Baldy, the coach did it on purpose....you heard me...on purpose. He thinks that Belichick did it on purpose, to take the pressure off his team. I'm not buying it for one second. You wouldn't ruin your reputation and your checkbook over an action like the one that took place in the Meadowlands. Belichick did it because he's arrogant, and has no respect for the game or the rules...it's "win at all costs". If you believe that this is an isolated incident, then you should be hanging out with Baldinger...or perhaps Goodell. Roger Goodell let me down with his ruling. I expected more from the new NFL leader. The ruling was a no-brainer....the Patriots should have to forfeit the win, and be on notice that the next incident along these lines would result in termination for all parties involved. Fining Bob Kraft or Beli-cheat a grand total of $750,000 for this offense is almost as criminal as the Patriots' act in week one. Since this is a "panty raid" post, how about a big pair of 4 XL grandma panties for Charlie Weis? How pathetic is this guy? He has no clue, no answers, and no offense. When you lose to Michigan 38-0, after the Wolverines' efforts against App State and Oregon, you know you have hit rock bottom. It couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch. The only group of people that might be as arrogant as Beli-cheat and Company can be found in South Bend. The Irish are riding a 5-game, blowout losing streak. It's so bad at Notre Dame, that Gerry Faust called and stated: "Damn, you really suck...and I should know." Seriously, if your life depended on it, and ND played Duke this week, who would you pick?....just how bad would a team like Appalachian State destroy Notre Dame? Even Bob Davie and Ty Willingham have to smirk at this start for the Irish. You have to go back to 1933 to find a worse offensive start to a Notre Dame season. The Irish have compiled a grand total of 13 points in three games....and that includes a defensive touchdown (their only appearance in the end zone this year). Yeah, that Weis guy is a brilliant offensive mind...I wonder if he ever took advantage of a videotape or two, during an NFL game? Ironically, Weis stated after the embarrassing effort in Ann Arbor that they will not be subsequently watching tapes; they'll be practicing....maybe Charlie should go back to his cheating Patriot days? The only problem is that the talent level is so weak in South Bend, the opponents could let Crew Cut Charlie videotape and even give them the playbook, and the Irish still couldn't do anything about it. The only guy who seems to have figured it out at Notre Dame is Demetrius Jones. He's the guy who started at QB for the opening game for ND. He decided to transfer immediately, and didn't even board the team bus to the Michigan game. I wonder how many current players would like to do the same thing? The Big Ten should be proud...they are off to a record start. Not only does Michigan become the answer to a trivia question, after App State's upset over them in Ann Arbor...well, the league now also has a bookend in the trophy case, as the nation's longest losing streak comes to an end - compliments of Duke's win at Northwestern. "Congrats", to Ted Roof and his guys...the 22-game losing streak is over, and the celebration begins in Durham. The poor Big Ten fans can't catch a break from the state of North Carolina.....first App State, and now Duke. I think it's hilarious. When are these PGA Tour guys going to learn their lesson? Every time one of these blowhards comes out and runs his mouth about Tiger Woods, they get smoked by the best player on Earth. The latest victim is Woody Austin, who was running his lips about Tiger being beatable if you play well, yada, yada, yada. Woody was able to see the beat-down up close, when he fired a 69 in the third round of this week's Fed Ex Cup, only to watch Tiger blaze to a 64. Afterwards, Austin stated that he "played like an idiot". Come on, Woody; you didn't play like an idiot....you are an idiot. |
