Worst Ever The collection of college football games that were on display on Saturday might have been the lamest on record. There were 14 Top 25 teams that were playing non-conference games....the ranked teams outscored the chumps they scheduled by a total of 691-135....quick math, that is an average score of 49-9. It was garbage. 76-Zip...72-Nothing...it was a complete waste of time. The good news is that the college football schedule gets juiced up this weekend with some interesting games like; Ole Miss-Bama....LSU-Georgia.....Wisconsin-Ohio State....Oklahoma-Notre Dame....Arizona State-USC....South Carolina-Central Florida, etc.... I don't have a vote in the process, nor do I want one.....but if I had to rank the Top 5 teams in the country based on game results only to date, my Top 5 would be as as follows:
The Tide has the best win on the road......Clemson has the best win at home....Stanford & Oregon are legit beasts, with the Cardinal getting the nod with a dominating win vs. ranked AZ.State....and LSU has two decent wins to their credit against TCU & Auburn. But it is too early in the season to worry about my Top 5 or any other ranking. We start getting some answers this weekend as the conference match-ups start to take place. Based on all the ugly football this past weekend, here are 10 items that caught my attention:
The NY Football Giants lost to the Carolina Panthers 38-nada on Sunday. I can honestly say that they are the worst visiting football team to ever play in Charlotte. I racked my brains about this one, and nobody comes close. The Panthers played great and destroyed the G-Men. I thought the NY Jets were the crappy, over-hyped, BS football team in New York? The Giants looked like a bad ACC football team. They couldn't block, run, tackle, catch or coach. The Carolina Panthers enjoyed their most lopsided win in team history and it was impressive. The Giants left town with 150 total yards and 3 more turnovers. I didn't think they were going to cross midfield. I guess New Yorkers will be glued to the stat that since 1978, only 5 teams starting 0-3 have ever made the playoffs......we won't worry about that one this week in Carolina. But maybe there should be more "must wins" for Ron Rivera? The Chase for the Cup looks familiar. Matt Kenseth wins and Kyle Busch comes in second place. Two up, two down for Joe Gibbs Racing. At this pace, America will be completely immune to NASCAR by early October. It's starting to look like a 3-man race at this pace.....maybe things will change up in Dover....or maybe not? Jimmie Johnson is only 18 points out in 3rd place, so you can't discount his chances......but everybody else is slipping away. NASCAR has to keep this interesting, and at this point it looks like the Gibbs Invitational. Only eight races to go, and it's time for some action.....hopefully Dover can provide some. Henrik Stenson just won the FedEx Cup and put $11.4 million in his bank account this weekend. That beats working. That's a great deal if you can get it......playing golf, too. |
