"Honorable
Mention", at Best! The 2005 NFL schedule has been released - and for the hometown Carolina Panthers, it looks great. I think it is the best home schedule ever for the Panthers. When you consider that 5 of the 8 regular season home games are against teams that made the playoffs last season, and you throw in the Redskins and Steelers in the preseason, too...that's a very appealing schedule. In fact, if you haven't had the chance to see or study the home games for '05, here is the list:
I was surprised that the NFL would select the Panthers to appear on Monday Night Football, after the disappointing 7-9 season in '04. What makes it better is that Charlotte gets the chance to host the game. By the way, the MNF game is against Brett Favre and the Packers. It will mark the third time since 2000 that the Panthers and Packers hook up in Charlotte on Monday Night Football. Last season, these same two teams started the 2004 season on Monday night. I looked up the last time that there was a repeat game on Monday Night Football...and amazingly, there hasn't been the same game played on MNF in back-to-back seasons since November '99 / November '00 when Oakland played at Denver. However, I couldn't believe what I was reading on the Panthers' very own website, the day the schedule was released. Under a picture of Steve Smith, the caption read:
That's embarrassing. As I stated earlier, the Panthers play 5 of their 8 home games against Playoff teams...including a game against the two-time, defending World Champion New England Patriots. The Dallas Cowboys are yesterday's news...not to mention a team that finished up 6-10 last season. The good news is that the Panthers changed their website the next day...hopefully, John Fox can turn the Panthers around as quickly in 2005 and get back into the Playoffs. |
