Got to Be Kidding! The week has certainly produced some strange quotes and antics from the world of sports... How about Jeff Gordon's rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at Wrigley Field?...or as Jeff calls it, "Wrigley Stadium". How about Tom Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints, who turned down a 1 billion dollar offer for his team ? That's the Saints for crying out loud!...I don't know who is crazier, Benson or the fools that think it is worth a billion bucks. How about the Minnesota Vikings being bought by a guy named, "Ziggy". How can you take the Vikes seriously, if the guy that writes their checks is named, "Ziggy"? NASCAR driver Robby Gordon said that Danica Patrick has an advantage over the Indy field because she only weighs 105 pounds...does he have a point? NY Mets star, Mike Piazza, met radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh before a game last week. Limbaugh signed a ball for Piazza. Later Piazza said, "It was like meeting American royalty". He also stated that meeting Rush Limbaugh is like hooking up to George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, General Douglas MacArthur and the Pope. I guess it is safe to say that Mike is a Republican...but he needs to get over his man-crush. Say it ain't so...NFL superstar Jerry Rice signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos. He will obviously play a back-up role for the Broncs...but it is sad to watch arguably the best WR in NFL history play out the string in a back-up role to close out his career. It is a shame that some of the all-time greats don't know when to call it quits. Tampa was awarded the 2009 Super Bowl. There should be one simple prerequisite for any city bidding for a Super Bowl...palm trees. That's right, if the palm tree isn't indigenous to that respective city, then you have no shot to host the big game. And one other rule should be added, too...Jacksonville, Detroit and Atlanta aren't allowed to bid either. It looks like college football screwed itself again. If the BCS wasn't bad enough, the coaches have approved that their final poll will be unveiled to the public. That means we'll all know how each of the coaches voted in their final ballot. How about having some guts and give us those results every week?...Personally, it should be a feast or famine situation...either all or nothing. It would have been smarter if they had voted to publish the first poll of the season on October 1st of each season. That way, everybody would have the chance to see three or four games before voting. Basing the preseason poll on last season's results serves absolutely no purpose. |
