Close, But No Cigar

Michelle Wie played well last week at the John Deere Classic. In fact, she said she played "great".

Her 141 total (-1) for the first two rounds missed the cut by only two shots. She finished in a tie for 88th place.

There is no question that Michelle Wie has some talent and skill, and her performance for a 15-year old was certainly interesting to watch.

But a fifteen year old has no place competing on the PGA Tour...and that's true regardless of gender. I hope for her sake, that her handlers don't burn her out on the game. Golf is a tough sport, and mentally challenging....if you don't believe me, ask David Duval.

Duval used to be the best player in the world. Now, he finds himself being waxed by Michelle Wie. At the John Deere Classic, Wie beat Duval by 7 shots.

The LPGA will be lucky to have Wie as a full-time player. Of course, current rules mandate that you must be 18 to compete on the LPGA Tour...if the morons in charge of that circuit don't wise up, they may lose one of their star attractions.

I think it is great that Wie has aspirations of playing against the best players in the world on the PGA Tour. The only problem is that currently, she is not one of them.

The good news is that the LPGA Tour will be a great venue for her to maximize her skills and become a star on the women's tour....and if she wants to test her ability once she becomes a more complete player, then perhaps she can make the cut on the PGA Tour.

In the meantime, the LPGA Tour needs Wie.

The PGA Tour doesn't.
